After our lunch at Top 1 Home Made Noodles, we made a few stops along the Downtown Line 2 (Botanic Gardens & Sixth Avenue) before heading to our last pit stop: Rail Mall (Hillview). Some of you westsiders may be familiar with this popular food haunt. Home to a few cafes, restaurants and eateries, the most famous place here is probably the prata shop. A short walk away, you'll find an old railway track which is perfect for ootds, potds, wiwts.

We had earlier wanted to try Soon Huat Bak Kut Teh at Sixth Avenue, but unfortunately it was raining heavily and we didn't want to risk getting wet. So when we found Pao Xiang Bak Kut Teh at Rail Mail we did not hesitate to enter. The shop looks new and we weren't sure if it was going to be any good as it was neither lunchtime nor dinnertime.

We weren't particularly hungry, so we just went for some Youtiao ($1.60) to dunk into our soup.

At Pao Xiang, you can choose from various cuts: Neng Gu, Pai Gu etc. We went for the Pai Gu ($6.80 above), because we preferred ours more meaty. Pao Xiang's herbal Bak Kut Teh soup leans more towards a gravy than a soup, and it is a wonderfully rich blend of pork essence, herbs and spices. Although it might look like only a small portion, rest assured you can request for soup top ups. The pork ribs were also excellent -- easily sliding off the bone.

Other than Bak Kut Teh, they do have other interesting offerings like enoki or button mushroom soup (we stole a glance at our neighboring table and it looked like it came with the same rich soup). They also sell braised pork belly, innards and vegetables if you are looking for a bigger spread.
